Do I need a referral from my GP?
No, but you can use one. Option 1: bring a request your own doctor has signed (download our request form for them) and pay for the test and report. Option 2: a KnowLuna women's health doctor reviews your details, requests the test and talks you through the results.
What is the difference between the two options?
The test, the lab and the plain-English report are identical. Option 1 uses your doctor's request, costs less, and your doctor receives the results. Option 2 includes a KnowLuna doctor's request and a 20-minute results consult, with no GP visit needed.
Who can order a KnowLuna test?
Adults aged 18 and over living in Australia. Some panels have additional suitability checks that the reviewing doctor applies.
Is it covered by Medicare or private health insurance?
No. KnowLuna tests are self-pay. The price includes the doctor's request, the accredited lab test and your results explained.
Can I order for someone else?
No. Because a doctor reviews each request against the person's own health information, tests must be ordered by the person being tested.
Where do I get the sample taken?
Your choice at checkout: an accredited collection centre near you (included), a home kit posted to you (swab and saliva kits included; finger-prick blood kits from $29 once our lab's validation is complete), or a nurse home visit ($129, metro areas). We show you the closest centres once your test is requested.
Can I collect at home?
Yes for most tests. Swab and saliva kits (vaginal microbiome, carrier screening, pharmacogenomics) are posted to you now. Finger-prick blood kits cover the hormone, fertility, thyroid and symptom panels and switch on once our laboratory finishes validating them; a few markers that need a venous sample (like a full blood count) are left out of the home version and can be added free at a centre. NIPT and the preconception check need a venous draw, so those are centre or nurse visit. If a home sample cannot be tested we send a replacement kit at no charge.
Do I need to fast or time my cycle?
It depends on the panel. The PCOS panel is fasting; some hormones are best measured on particular cycle days. We tell you exactly what to do, and the doctor reads your results in context.
How long does collection take?
Usually under ten minutes for a standard blood draw.
How long until I get results?
Typically a few business days from collection. We notify you by SMS and email when they're ready in your account.
Who explains my results?
An AHPRA-registered doctor, in a results consult by video or phone, included in the price.
What if something is abnormal?
If anything needs prompt attention a doctor contacts you directly. For everything else, your results consult covers what it means and sensible next steps, which may include a referral to your GP or a specialist.
Can I share results with my own GP?
Yes. You can download your results and your doctor's summary from your account and share them with anyone you choose.
Where is my data stored?
In Australia, encrypted, and handled under the Privacy Act and the Australian Privacy Principles. We never sell your data. See our Privacy Policy for the detail.
How do I pay?
By card at checkout, processed securely. You receive a tax invoice by email.
What's your refund policy?
If a doctor decides a test isn't appropriate for you, you're refunded in full. Other situations are covered in our Terms.
