What a KnowLuna test is
A KnowLuna test is a pathology panel requested by an AHPRA-registered doctor after reviewing your health information, processed by an accredited laboratory (NATA/RCPA-accredited for routine pathology; an accredited specialist genomics laboratory, in Australia or overseas, for genomic tests), and explained to you by a doctor. It is one input to understanding your health.
What a KnowLuna test is not
- It is not a diagnosis. Conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome, perimenopause, menopause and infertility are diagnosed clinically by a doctor from your symptoms, history and examination. A blood test supports that assessment; it does not replace it.
- It is not a prediction. No blood test can tell you whether or when you will conceive, or exactly when you will reach menopause.
- It is not a substitute for your GP. We encourage you to share your results with your regular doctor, and we will refer you on where that is the right thing to do.
- It is not a screening test for cancer or serious disease unless a specific panel says so.
- Where a test is a screening test (for example NIPT or carrier screening), it estimates probability. A high-probability result is confirmed with diagnostic testing arranged with your doctor, and a low-probability result does not exclude every condition.
- Home finger-prick (capillary) samples are analysed against reference ranges validated by our laboratory for that sample type. Small differences from venous results are expected and are accounted for in the doctor's interpretation; a doctor may ask for a venous re-collection where a result is borderline.

Self-pay and Medicare
KnowLuna tests are consumer-initiated and self-pay. They are not rebated by Medicare and are not claimable through private health insurance. Your GP may be able to order some of the same tests with a Medicare rebate where there is a clinical indication; we encourage you to consider that option.
Advertising and compliance
KnowLuna does not advertise prescription medicines or specific therapies. Our doctors discuss treatment options with you individually, in consultation, where clinically appropriate. Consistent with the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law, we do not use patient testimonials in our advertising. We aim for every statement on this site to be accurate, balanced and supported by evidence; if you believe something is not, please tell us at hello@knowluna.com.au.
