The science

Hormones. Chromosomes. Genes.

Three ideas sit behind everything we test. Understanding them is the first step to understanding your results, so here they are, in plain English.

Hormones

Chemical messengers made in one part of the body that act on another. Oestradiol, FSH, AMH and the rest are how your ovaries, brain and thyroid talk to each other. They rise and fall by the day and across your life, which is why context and timing matter when we read them.

Chromosomes

Packaged DNA. Humans have 23 pairs; the 23rd pair decides sex, and most women carry two X chromosomes. The X-shape you see in textbooks is a condensed chromosome after its DNA has copied. It is the shape behind our logo.

Genes

Sections of DNA that carry instructions. Genes influence how your body makes and responds to hormones, which is part of why two women with similar results can feel very different. Our panels today focus on hormones; genetic testing is part of where KnowLuna is heading.

The KnowLuna standard

Credible by design.

A lot of direct-to-consumer testing is low value. We built KnowLuna to be the opposite: only tests with real clinical use, always read by a doctor, always processed to the same standard as hospital pathology.

  • 1Accredited laboratories. Routine pathology is processed by NATA/RCPA-accredited Australian laboratories under the National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council standards. Genomic tests (NIPT, carrier screening, hereditary cancer and pharmacogenomic panels) are performed by accredited specialist genomics laboratories, in Australia or overseas, and we name the laboratory and where it is before you order.
  • 2Doctor review, every time. AHPRA-registered doctors request every test and explain every result. No automated reports.
  • 3Only tests that help. We select markers doctors actually use, and we tell you plainly what a test can't tell you.
  • 4Your data stays in Australia. Stored and processed in Australia, protected under the Privacy Act, never sold.
Why our logo is two X chromosomes

XX, with one switched off.

Most women carry two X chromosomes. In every one of your cells, one of those two X's is switched off, a process called X-inactivation. It is one of the quiet, remarkable facts of female biology, and almost nobody talks about it.

So our mark is two X's: one solid, one hollow. It says women, it says genetics, and it says we look at the whole picture, including the parts that usually go unseen.

About KnowLuna

Clarity is the first step to feeling well.

KnowLuna is an Australian women's health company, based in Melbourne. We started with a simple observation: too many women spend years guessing about their bodies, dismissed, waitlisted, or handed a lab printout with no explanation. We think understanding your own body should be simple, credible and yours.

We're launching with hormone testing across fertility, cycles, PCOS, perimenopause and menopause, with doctors who explain, not just report. Over time we'll grow into a lifetime of care, from the first fertility question to menopause and beyond.

Know Luna Pty Ltd (ABN 11 160 196 323). Level 7, 222 Exhibition Street, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia.
